Plan Your Fringe

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 July 2026

Plan Your Fringe is a free, independent Edinburgh Fringe planner run by SOMETHINGCOOL. This page explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why, how we keep it safe, and the rights you have over it. We comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

The short version: we collect only what we need to build and email you your plan. We keep it with trusted providers. We never sell your personal information, and no show or venue can pay to appear in your picks.

1Who we are

The data controller is SOMETHINGCOOL, a company registered in the United Kingdom, operating Plan Your Fringe at planyourfringe.com. For anything to do with your data, or to exercise any of the rights below, email us at data@heressomething.cool.

2What we collect

We do not ask for, or want, anything more than this. We don't collect payment details (the tool is free), and we don't track you around the web.

3Why we use it, and our legal basis

What for
Legal basis
Building and emailing you your Fringe plan
To carry out the thing you asked us to do (our legitimate interest in providing the service you requested)
Sending you occasional Fringe tips, updates and news about new features
Your consent — only if you tick the optional box. You can withdraw it any time.
Keeping the service secure and working
Our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable site

4Who we share it with

We don't sell your data and we don't share it for anyone else's marketing. We use a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf, under contract:

Some of these providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where your data is transferred abroad, it is protected by appropriate safeguards (such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement).

5How long we keep it

We keep your details for as long as you're happy to hear from us. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we remove you from our list and delete your details. The copy of your plan saved in your browser stays until you clear it yourself.

6Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

To use any of these, email data@heressomething.cool. We'll respond within one month.

7Cookies and location

By default we set no advertising or tracking cookies. The only thing we store on your device is a functional copy of your plan (so you can return to it) and, once you've answered it, your cookie choice itself.

We run ads on Google to help people find this tool, and we'd like to know when an ad actually led to a plan. A banner asks your permission first: if you accept, Google sets a single conversion-measurement cookie (Google Ads). If you decline, no such cookie is set. Either way you can use everything on the site, and we never use this for tracking you around the web or building a profile. Withdraw your choice any time by clearing the site's data in your browser, the banner will ask again.

If you use a "near me now" feature to find shows close to you, your location is read in your browser only, used to find nearby shows, and is never sent to us or stored.

8Children

Plan Your Fringe is intended for adults planning their trip. We don't knowingly collect data from children. Family and age preferences in the quiz are about the shows you're choosing, not about identifying anyone.

9Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk.

10Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will be made clear on the site.
